Our story
We didn’t start a consulting firm.
We started in the owner’s chair.
For more than twenty years we've been inside home-services businesses — HVAC, plumbing, electrical. We've managed technicians, run dispatch, built sales teams, made payroll when the account was thin, and lost sleep over numbers we couldn't quite explain. We know these businesses from the truck to the P&L, because we lived it.
So we'll say the thing nobody says out loud: most contractors are excellent at the work and flying blind on the business. Strong at the job. Bleeding at the company. The money leaks somewhere between the tech closing the ticket and the cash hitting the bank — and most owners can't tell you where, because nothing they own will show them.
It started with a friend’s shop
The numbers said broke. He never saw them.
~58¢
gross kept on every dollar

gone between the job and the bank
A buddy of ours ran a good company. Good crews. Great reviews. Busy every day. And on paper, he was losing money — keeping nearly 58 cents of gross on every dollar and still upside down at the bottom line. Sixty-one points, gone, between the job and the bank.
He couldn't tell you which jobs made money. His marketing was spent blind — dollars going out with no idea which ones came back. Cash was sitting uncollected in his customers' pockets, invisible in his own books. He looked broke on paper and didn't even know it.
He didn't need more advice. He'd had consultants. He had software for everything. What he needed was to see — clearly, honestly, on a Monday morning — and then to actually do something about what he saw.
So we got in. We cleaned the data. We made every leak visible and put a name and a due date on each one. And we did something most consultants never would: we took equity. We bet on him, with our own money. The bleeding stopped. The business turned profitable. Not because we handed him a prettier dashboard — because we gave him visibility he'd act on, and we held him accountable to act.
That’s when it clicked. This wasn’t one shop. This was every shop.
What we believe
The best-run shops aren’t lucky.
They’re visible, accountable, disciplined, and they execute. That’s the whole game.
Data without context is noise.
A pile of numbers you can't act on is worse than nothing — it's a false sense of control.
Reports without accountability create no value.
A dashboard tells you what happened. It has never once told you what to do about it on Monday — or made sure you did it.
Software without action changes nothing.
The tools were never the answer. The operating system around them is.
Why we built M1COS
One place that turns all of it into decisions.
You already have software for the job — CRM, accounting, dispatch, payroll. What you don’t have is one place that turns all of it into decisions. So we built it.
M1COS — the Margin One Client Operating System — reads from the tools you already run and turns your business into something you can finally see, run, and grow from the inside out. It’s not another dashboard. It’s the operating system your company has been missing — and increasingly, an intelligence that doesn’t just show you the pulse of your business, but tells you the call to make today, and won’t let you ignore it.
Who we’re for
Owners who are done guessing.
Owners who are tired of working harder every year and keeping less. Who want to build something disciplined enough to run without them — and profitable enough to be worth building. We’re operators. We’ve sat in your chair. And we only win when you do.
Margin One. Visibility. Accountability. Discipline. Execution.
